Gestaltungsvorschlags (Formation Proposals) In Residence: November 29, 2004 - February 10, 2005Exhibition: held in-processCreative Resident Susan Meyer worked on a mixed media installation during her November 29, 2004 – February 10, 2005 residency at PlatteForum. Entitled, Gestaltungsvorschlags (Formation Proposals), the piece depicted a series of planned, utopian landscapes — futuristic, sci-fi, B-movie version. Made of low-grade materials unfit for the whims of eternity, inhabited by tiny, pseudo-classical plastic figures seemingly unable to connect with each other or their current situations, and ruled by unseen forces outside of their control, these utopias bend, like so many others, under the weight of human fragility and the forces of nature, history and time. Additionally, Meyer collaborated with youth from PS1 Charter School creating real and imagined 3D landscapes with photography and mixed media that was exhibited in the back gallery.Her work was held “in-process” throughout her residency period offering the public a chance to visit a working artists studio. She will continue to explore this body of work over a year long period.Artist StatementCreative Resident Susan Meyer will be working on a mixed media installation during her November 29, 2004 – February 10, 2005 residency at PlatteForum. Her work has been widely exhibited including the Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver; Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art; ARC/Raw Space Gallery in Chicago; The Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe; Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities; the Nicolaysean Art Museum in Wyoming; and at Zeile/Judish Gallery in Denver. She has been awarded artist-in-residence fellowships at Pilchuck Glass School (WA), Anderson Ranch Arts Center (CO), Ucross Foundation (WY), Sculpture Space (NY) and the Rocky Mountain Women’s Institute (CO).
