Hollis+Lana
In Residence: October 29 – December 14, 2012Exhibition: opens December 13, 2012; continues through January 31, 2013Learning Lab: Colorado I Have A Dream FoundationHollis+Lana(artists Conor Hollis and Amorette Lana) began collaborating in 2008. Their partnership was born out of a mutual love of process and exploration. Together Hollis+Lana focus on expanding the reality of perceptual possibility. While the pair originally worked independently in the studio, they have coalesced to become one artistic voice. They work with a wide range of materials (from iron and bronze to graphite and paint) and diverse subject matter. While in residence the artists will create murals conceived in the virtual world, and then translate those works into a large series of sculptures and environmental paintings.Twelve middle-school youth from the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation will participate in Learning Lab workshops with the artists in which they will create two- and three-dimensional objects that express their dreams. Experimenting with a variety of materials, process, and creative strategies, each child will create their own work of art that will be installed in the final exhibition.Conor Hollis moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1998 from New Orleans. He completed a BFA in sculpture in 2000 and a master’s degree in 2007 in urban planning with a focus on urban design. Hollis's work as an artist is greatly influenced by his study of urban design; he focuses on the concepts of civilization and urbanity and the implications for humanity in conjunction with the natural world. Amorette Lana, a Denver native, graduated from the University of Colorado in 2007 where she studied draftsmanship and sculpture. Raised in an intensely creative environment, she is adamant about finding opportunity for exploration and play for the mind. http://www.hollislana.com/The Learning Lab series for this residency is sponsored by Gavin Sher.
