Introducing the Spring 2014 ArtLab Interns

Interns will spend the next semester working with Creative Resident Kwantaeck Park exploring their frustrations and respond to these seemingly negative ideas with quirky and whimsical solutions. Work will represent each student and be explored in various forms including sculpture and video.PlatteForum is proud to announce the ArtLab Interns of 2014! This Spring we welcome 4 students, bringing us to 16 interns representing 11 different schools throughout the Denver area. ArtLab students are referred to the program by counselors, teachers, friends and other adults in their lives. To enter the program the students go through an application and interview process. Interviews are conducted by staff, current ArtLab students and previous lead artists.ArtLab 2014 is...Aimee 17, Lincoln HS - She is very focused on completing her AP Literature and AP Biology class as well as finishing her senior year. Aimee’s dream is to become an artist working in animation or game design. She enjoys playing tennis, and you can almost always find her reading a book or writing and drawing in her sketchbook.Aubrey 18, East HS - Aubrey plans on using his skills in music and other talents to participate in revolutionary acts. He dreams of creating a new genre of music and becoming well known, with his artistic creations to be known worldwide, and eventually becoming a legend. At East he participates in the B.S.A (Black Student Alliance) and Choir. He is interested in music, music production photography, architecture, psychology, environmental science, singing, color theory, dance, and fashion. He loves learning new things and researching what is unknown to him.Ceasar 17, Global Leadership Academy - Ceasar’s dreams are to become an elementary school teacher, tattoo artist, graffiti artist and maybe one day live on the moon. Art is his passion, especially street art, poetry, photography, and sculpture. Ceasar likes to make jokes and tries to have an upbeat, positive attitude in life.Chloe 17, CEC / Emily Griffith - Chloe is a very focused busy young woman and plans is taking programs to become a cosmetologist for certification as a mortician with a little fashion design sprinkled in. She has participated in cross-country and track for 4 years. When not at PlatteForum you can find Chloe working at a local thrift store, skateboarding or at a concert. She loves collecting animal bones, photography, and she is very passionate about dinosaurs. An advanced seamstress, she can bend her thumb backwards, and even communicate with the dead.Darius 17, ACE Community Challenge - Darius plans to complete work at ACE and enroll at Thomas Jefferson High School in the fall and is dedicated to completing high school and receiving his diploma. A committed artist, his current mediums include graffiti, abstract painting, and sculpture. He has been practicing his graffiti since he was 6 and is always looking for new ways to improve his art and challenge himself.DeAndre 15, Manual HS - If you are looking to talk sports DeAndre is your man! Once he graduates high school he hopes to attend either LSU or Florida State. After college his dreams are to play professional football or be a sportscaster. He enjoys drawing and graphic design especially sports logos. He enjoys traveling with his family, even though he is afraid of heights.Deysi 16, Bruce Randolph HS Bio Coming Soon Gio 18, Bruce Randolph HS - Gio is a high school senior at Bruce Randolph who has been an ArtLab intern since 2012. He proclaims that 2014 is his year! Gio’s current goals are graduating this Spring and gaining the knowledge and training necessary to help him create a his own printing business and artist collective here in Denver. He is a talented painter and works in various scales from small canvases to large murals. He enjoys fluffy kittens, donuts with sprinkles and Billy Ray Cyrus.Jackie 18, Lincoln HS - Jackie has been in ArtLab for a year now, she is also very active in volleyball and NHS at Lincoln. Her goals are to dedicate herself to helping animals and the environment because she feels that it is important to take care of mother nature and her amazing resources. Jackie enjoys literature, the ocean, drawing, writing and painting. She believes in mermaids and has just finished writing a short novel.Jelani 18, Venture Prep - Jeliani offers the group an imaginative perspective on the ways of the world his spirits are always high and he is always ready to offer up thoughts in discussion. After graduation Jelani hopes to work toward becoming a comic book artist, or an actor. Outside of ArtLab he enjoys working on various concepts for comics and cartoons as well as LARPing.Jose 16, North HS - Jose’s dreams for the future definitely include art and being creative with plans to attend four-year university. When he is not at ArtLab you can find Jose spending time with his family. Jose always has a pen and his sketchbook on hand, and in school is very active in art classes working in the studio. Plus he volunteers as a tutor for geometry at North. Jose is a fan of rap music and drawing and is passionate about martial arts (he currently is a black belt), something he has been practicing for eight years. A Colorado native, he plans to spend his whole life in the state.Kadejah 17, CO HS Charter Bio Coming Soon Katherine 17, Lincoln HS - Is extremely focused and set on graduation this spring, following graduation Katherine would like to pursue a career in auto mechanics and eventually own her own shop. She is very active in school clubs such as, Jóvenes Unido  and Intensidad Juvenil both clubs focusing on community and social justice. Katherine is very spirited and always willing to lend a helping hand. Along with cars she enjoys baking, and fashion design.Kyra 16, Denver On-Line - Kyra has only lived in Colorado since late 2011 she is originally from California. Her current goals are to finish High School and attend USC. She would also love to live in San Sebastian, Spain, be a cast member on SNL and attend a Broncos game. She is extremely interested in film and acting. Her favorite bands are No Doubt and Weezer. Kyra is also a member of a team from Denver On-Line High School that has recently won best in state for the Verizion Innovative App Challenge!Mariah 16, Denver On-Line - New intern Mariah would like to move to France and study animation or film or possibly become a lawyer. She enjoys drawing, singing, making music, dancing, and cracking knock-knock jokes. She is a pro at reciting the alphabet backwards, and is extremely shy.Ruben 19, Lincoln HS - If you are looking to talk sports DeAndre is your man! Once he graduates high school he hopes to attend either LSU or Florida State. After college his dreams are to play professional football or be a sportscaster. He enjoys drawing and graphic design especially sports logos. He enjoys traveling with his family, even though he is afraid of heights.
