Spring 2013 Learning Lab: ArtLab with Memetic & Pho

This Learning Lab took ArtLab for a spin! Creative Residents Kwende "Memetic" Kefentse and Ian "Pho" Swain challenged the ArtLab Interns to experiment with sound and the art of sampling. Throughout this Learning Lab interns examined their personal musical influences while drawing inspiration from various genres from punk to electronic, mariachi to drum and bass. To start things off the interns were grouped and given the task to not only create an original composition but also design an album cover that captured the emotion of the track. By the end of the six weeks the ArtLab interns were floating through music software and MIDI controllers becoming young masters with the tools presented to them. Beyond the music production skills, the artists understand that for many youth, the creative skills learned in this process can make a significant impact each teen’s life. Listen to the tracks from DJ Memetic & DJ Pho's PlatteForum residency + all the ArtLab songs here!
