Jessica Kreutter + ArtLab
In Residence: January 9 - March 2, 2012Exhibition: Opens Thursday, March 1Exhibition continues through March 16, 2012Learning Lab: ArtLab Exhibition program with youth statementsJessica Kreutter is a ceramic and mixed media artist fascinated with the spaces that are "in-between." A place somewhere between reality and fantasy as they overlap to create new possibilities of glimpsing the world differently. ArtLab is PlatteForum's year-round paid internship program for high school students. Each year PlatteForum matches ArtLab youth with one of our Creative Residents. Being able to work with Jessica this spring gives the ArtLab students a new perspective as they explore clay through sculpting, drying, firing and glazing.PlatteForum's ArtLab students are learning the basic techniques in hand-building such as slab, pinch pot and coil. The ArtLab students work in concert with Jessica exploring the concepts of reality and fantasy while abstracting realism. The students are translating their personal emotions into distinct bodily representations. ArtLab interns learn sgraffito, how to build-solid, slipping and scoring while they combine opposing pieces to form one. They are applying these techniques as they work side by side with Jessica through her creative process. Students will then use found objects and their imaginations to confront the space between reality and fantasy, concluding in a site-specific installation of work.
