Jennifer Stratton + ArtLab

Denver Soil Bank: In Residence: September 05 – October 26, 2015Exhibition: Opens Saturday, October 24 ; continues through November 4, 2015Press ReleaseFall has not officially started but that is not going to hold us back from kicking off our new season. Join us in welcoming our first Artist in Residence Jennifer Stratton. Over the next six weeks Jenny will be leading ArtLab through an exploration of their personal histories using soil, film and photography. Through these workshops ArtLab Interns are experimenting with new ways to collectively represent and tell stories about the place they live.Jenny is excited to share her fascination with the earth’s soils and has enlisted the help of ArtLab interns to create the first ever Denver Soil Bank here at PlatteForum. Playing on the 1956 Soil Bank Act legislation, the Denver Soil Bank is an evolving collection and exchange of community soils and stories. Urban soils do not merely provide sites for new construction and infrastructure, but also determine the quality of human health, local climate, water supply, safe waste storage, plant and animal habitats, and can even provide the source of nutrition and food production for the city’s population. The Denver Soil Bank is a participatory public art project examining our relationship to the ground beneath our feet. Want to make a deposit? Denver Soil Bank Hours are: Tuesday - Friday 12 - 4pm & Saturday 10 - 1pm (Closed Saturday, September 26)Don't forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, October 24 as we celebrate the opening exhibition of Jenny Stratton and ArtLab’s new work here at PlatteForum.
