Homare Ikeda + William Smith High School
In Residence: January 12 and March 6, 2009Exhibition opens March 5; continues through March 20, 2009Learning Labs: William Smith High School
During Homare Ikeda's residency he continues his ritual of doing eleven ink drawings every morning. Twice a week students from William Smith High School travel to PlatteForum to study how to draw, to listen, to see, and to create drawings using a variety of tools and materials. The culmination of their work will be their drawings, writings and tools integrated into an altered book. These works will appear with Homare's work in the exhibition that opens March 5 and continues through March 20."As I watched my students settle in to their paintings on our fourth visit to Platte Forum to work with Homare Ikeda, I was amazed to see how my students had evolved in such a short time. They easily relaxed into their work, they were quiet, their arms and hands moved fluidly, they seemed open and inspired, free, and the paintings they produced were of a different quality-unique and practiced. It was very fulfilling to me to see how they had grown." And thanks to Angela Hottinger for helping provide the materials for the workshop; Jade Sato, PlatteForumm intern; and volunteers Gretchen Schaefer, Randy Davis and Therese Coco.
