In Residence: October 31 – December 16, 2011Exhibition: Opens Thursday, December 15, 2011Exhibition continues through January 6, 2012Learning Lab: I Have A Dream Foundation(im)permanenceAn exhibition of quilted momentsAbigail Kokai is a visual artist whose work expresses and preserves the mundane visual moments in our lives as quilted objects. Quilts are composed of layered fabric fragments. In her work, layers represent the lived experience, visual identity, and a personal perspective. Everyday life comprises a variety of experiences. Many of these experiences pass through our senses for only a moment, bursting into consciousness and then suddenly disappearing. (im)permanence solidifies fragments of these experiences throughout the creation of routine Denver life, preserving otherwise lost or forgotten histories. abigailkokai.weebly.comThe experience at PlatteForum was more than anything I could have imagined. It is like a Mecca of positive energies, where art serves as a model for learning and sharing joy. Some of the most enlightening moments occurred while in conversation with Learning Lab youth and ArtLab interns. Just thinking about the experience brings a warm smile to my soul. --Abigail Kokai 2011
