Join PlatteForum for The Oracle of AI, an exhibition of new works by Paulus van Horne (they/them) featuring ArtLab. The exhibition explores the almost spiritual intimacy of our relationship with computers. Paulus’s work in the exhibition comments on the increasing use of AI to replace human care and empathy work in settings such as therapy, confessional and life coaching.
Paulus says: “This current vision of the future is one of total automation. Increasingly, AI is being implemented for its supposed divinatory power. This trust in autonomous algorithms to tell us about the world and offer advice for the future is potentially quite dangerous.”
Paulus van Horne (they/them) is a multimedia artist and technology researcher based in Lafayette, Colorado. Their creative practice and research covers Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, game design and large-scale audiovisual installation often featuring (supposedly) autonomous digital technology. Paulus is currently a PhD candidate in Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado Boulder where their academic research focuses on the history and design of gendered computer voices.
Using spheres to represent an oracle, Paulus invites viewers to ask questions, seek answers, and be vulnerable in the space with AI.
