Welcome Eileen Roscina! Our Fall 2024 Artist in Residence
We are excited to announce that Eileen Roscina will be joining PlatteForum as our Fall 2024 Artist in Residence!
Eileen Roscina's upcoming residency and exhibition at PlatteForum will focus on the "Disconnection from the environment that fuels the myth that we are the most important entity on the planet. Her art practice challenges this fallacy by examining what nature can teach us about being human. This exhibition will challenge the viewer to slow down, shift perception into the present and act as an inquiry into material ephemerality—and our own mortality. Eileen and the ArtLab will tell stories in an effort to help make sense of our changing ecology/environment and discover the intern’s unique stories and their own relationships to nature. Together with the ArtLab youth, she plans to create an immersive gallery installation that is rooted in a moving image work accompanied by sculptures that have a connection to the film. One does not need to travel far to experience wonderment of the natural world, but may require a reframing of perspective. Eileen and the ArtLab will address accessibility to nature, the psychological impacts of climate change and how these issues are interrelated to health and prosperity in marginalized communities."
Eileen Roscina is an artist, experimental filmmaker and naturalist from Denver, Colorado. She holds an MFA in Art Practices from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a BFA from Emerson College in Boston, MA, and also trained at the School of Botanical Art and Illustration in Denver. Through biomimicry and the study of biophilia, her work examines human’s spiritual and social (dis)connection with nature, and seeks to raise questions about realizing a radically different metaphoric mapping of time, space and our place in the world. Roscina works in 16mm film and animation, sculpture/installation with natural materials and alternative photographic processes.
She has exhibited film internationally, and visual art at Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, Denver Art Museum, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (Boulder), Museo de Las Americas (Denver), Vicki Myhren Gallery at University of Denver (Denver), Center for Visual Art (Denver), Arvada Center (Arvada), Dairy Art Center (Boulder), University of Colorado (Boulder), Salina Art Center (Kansas) and was the 2019 Resident Artist for the National Western Stock Show, a 2018-2020 resident at RedLine Contemporary Art Center, Denver. She is represented by Walker Fine Art Gallery in Denver, CO.
