PlatteForum is Pleased to Launch an After-School Open Studio for all Area Teens!
What is UnderGround?
UnderGround is an after-school open studio created by and for the teens. Open to all interested area youth, UnderGround is an experimental space where youth can fuse art making with community building and social change. Youth are welcome to drop-in and attend as much or as little as their schedules will allow.
When is UnderGround?
UnderGround occurs every Tuesday afternoon from 3-5pm, starting January 29th, 2019 and will run through May 2019.
Does it cost to attend UnderGround?
ALL UnderGround sessions are free and open to all area high school students!
What kind of art is made in UnderGround?
Each week, area youth create and offer workshops on varying topics, always about art skills and how they can be merged with social change and civic engagement. Some past workshops have been on artmaking technical skills, hosting a documentary screening, making a community meal together, zine production, an open mic hour, and many others. If you are a teen who becomes a regular attendee of UnderGround, you could be paid to design some of the next workshops offered! You are encouraged to explore any issue in any form that interests you. Staff and artists act as mentors for students to play, experiment and hone their artistic practice through this testing ground of new ideas.During Underground You…
- Collaborate with your peers + professional artists
- Are exposed to a diversity of artistic forms and ideas
- Are free to use and experiment with materials
- Engage in conversation and art making about social justice issues
If you would like to attend, please feel free to just show up! If you have questions, please contact Amanda Flores, Youth Programming Coordinator, aflores@platteforum.org:-)
