PLATTEFORUM PRESENTS TWO BRAND NEW EXHIBITS THIS MAY THAT EXPLORE DIVERSITY, INCLUSION AND INDIVIDUALITY THROUGH INNOVATIVE FASHION, TAPESTRY WEAVING, ART AND POETRY
DENVER – This May, PlatteForum presents two exhibits, “Escape/Run, Hide, Fight” and “Freedom in America." Both exhibitions will open Thursday, May 17th with opening receptions from 6 - 8 p.m. “Escape/Run, Hide, Fight” is the newest exhibit by PlatteForum Resident Artist Erika Diamond and will be in PlatteForum’s main gallery space on the first floor of the Temple Building, 2400 Curtis St. “Freedom in America” is a one night only event with artwork by PlatteForum’s ArtLab interns with lead artist Hannah Leathers in the Temple Building’s second floor studio space.

An exhibition with Resident Artist Erika Diamond and students from McLain High SchoolOpening Reception 6-8pm, Thursday, May 17The exhibition runs for two weeks, through May 31st, 2018.Please visit platteforum.org for gallery hoursThrough her residency at PlatteForum, Diamond explored contemporary fashion to create a series of bulletproof Kevlar vests designed for queer individuals. Alongside this exhibit, she will be showcasing her tapestry work depicting hypothetical people in emergency instruction scenarios. While her bulletproof vests help us question who is safe and who is valued, these garments also address the potential for personal safety to become part of our contemporary fashion vernacular. Both Diamond’s tapestry work and the "Escape/Run, Hide, Fight" exhibit reflect the vulnerability and self-preservation negotiated during human interaction.Our Resident Artist program is generously supported by OZ ArchitectureTo learn more about Erika Diamond’s work, click HERE.
This exhibition by PlatteForum's own ArtLab high school interns and lead artist Hannah Leathers will be an engaging, one night only event! Just above PlatteForum on the 2nd floor of The Temple, PlatteForum’s own ArtLab high school interns will host a one-night only exhibition of their drawings, the results of an eight-week class taught by local artist Hannah Leathers. During this class, interns learned about the foundations of drawing, and how they relate to foundations of privilege. The exhibition runs for ONE NIGHT ONLY, opening reception runs from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 17th.Freedom in America is a collaborative work of art created by the 16 ArtLab students. This exhibit questions what it means to be 'free in America' and contemporary forms of activism. ArtLab students explore unapologetic expression of personal identities and spotlight oppressive forces in our society.
