PlatteForum's ArtLab is Seeking Interns

P1100831

It is that time of year again, PlatteForum's ArtLab is seeking new interns to join the team!

What is ArtLab? ArtLab is an innovative year-round, out-of-school program for high school youth that integrates the creative process and arts-based learning with academic, personal, and professional skill development. Interns do not need to have an arts background. This program seeks youth who do not have access to learning through the arts and would benefit from structured immersion in the creative process.ArtLab interns are involved in the creation and presentation of major works, mentored by professional artists, participate in workshops directed by visiting artists, mentor younger underserved children during Learning Labs, and participate in service-learning projects. All projects address social issues affecting their generation which creates opportunities for youth to give voice to those issues. Each endeavor has clear goals and connections to the real world. This propels youth to become active members and catalysts for change in their communities.Who Can Apply? Any student can apply who is between the ages of 15 – 19 years old, currently in school and has at least 1.5 years of school remaining before their anticipated graduation. Most students with freshman, sophomore or junior standing will qualify. Students are accepted based on their need for the program in their lives and ability to commit long term and year round to the program. Once selected, students remain in ArtLab until the summer after they graduate high school. ArtLab is composed of 15 students. As students graduate from high school openings are available for new students. ArtLab accepts applications every fall semester to fill those openings.Other Stuff: ArtLab interns are paid a stipend during the academic year $150/semester and a monthly Stipend in the summer. Students work for 3 hours on Saturdays during the school year and attend PlatteForum opening events. In Summer time ArtLab meets for 20 hours a week over an 8 week period.Application Process:Students submit an application to PlatteForum by the deadline. Staff reviews applications and select a group of students who will participate in an individual interview. Students are interviewed by a group of PlatteForum staff, current ArtLab Interns, and PlatteForum committee members.
