ArtLab Summer 2015
Can you remember a time when you succumbed to magical hypotheticals –making plans for your lottery winnings, initiating world peace or rehearsing your Oscar acceptance speech? Hopefully you can relate to these ideas and understand the power of imagination as we do, and we invite you to join us this summer as we imagine, As If… For nine weeks this summer the fifteen interns in PlatteForum’s ArtLab will dive into an investigation of popular culture, community and the bridge between reality and fantasy. Interns will be challenged to dive deeper into their personal and shared environments, finding common threads attached to larger social conversations.Leading them through the first half of the summer is Mario Zoots, a seasoned photographic collage and appropriation artist. Interns will learn about composition, color and craft; employing both handcrafted and digital techniques to create new works to be exhibited on Thursday, July 16 here at PlatteForum. For the second half of the summer we will look to the wonderful writer, storyteller and all around powerhouse, Laura Bond, as our fearless leader. During her time with PlatteForum’s ArtLab Laura will introduce interns to the surrounding community which will serve as inspiration for a series of place based stories. ArtLab interns will present their experience on Friday, August 7 here at PlatteForum as part of the 2015 Biennial of the Americas celebration.PlatteForum's ArtLab interns learn to work together as a team, communicate, accept differences, and focus on completing a project/goal together within a paid internship structure.
