PlatteForum, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, is an award-winning and innovative arts, youth-development, and artist-in-residence program in Denver that teams under-resourced youth (K-12) with professional artists in intensive, structured, and long-term creative learning environments. Youth work side by side with resident artists to collaboratively plan, produce, and exhibit a body of work in an environment in which artistic excellence is highly valued. Youth in PlatteForum’s programs delve into a variety of art forms, confronting challenges and obstacles and making life-changing discoveries about who they are, what they are capable of achieving, and where they belong in the world.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The ArtLab Facilitator works in partnership with the Creative Programming Manager and community partners to successfully implement PlatteForum’s award winning youth program, ArtLab at both PlatteForum’s main office and at one to two other partner satellite locations.
ArtLab is an innovative year-round, out-of-school program for under-resourced high school youth that integrates the creative process and arts-based learning with academic, personal, leadership and professional skill development. As an intensive program, we are limited to 16 youth who go through a competitive application and interview process. Youth do not need to have an arts background. This program seeks youth who do not have access to learning through the arts and would benefit from structured immersion in the creative process.
ArtLab youth are involved in the creation and presentation of major works, mentored by professional artists, participate in workshops directed by visiting artists and participate in service-learning projects. All projects address social issues affecting their generation, which creates opportunities for youth to give voice to those issues and propels youth to become active members and catalysts for change in their communities. Through individual and group struggles, challenges, and obstacles, ArtLab interns learn to work together as a team, communicate, accept differences, and focus on completing a project/goal together. In the end, ArtLab youth create high-quality works of art and experience a sense of accomplishment, pride, and shared purpose.
