During Lauri’s residency she worked with youth to create a
massive, room-sized installed piece consisting of hundreds of
components. The youth, teen girls from Colfax Community Network and teens from Escuela Tlatelolco worked side-by-side with Lauri learning her creative process while
creating their own forms from plaster. The resulting work and
installation is a true collaboration between the artist and
participants, where the forms "flow" through the work, creating a river
of juxtaposed imagery, color, texture, and form. In addition to the
workshops and installation at PlatteForum, the students participated in
a “live painting” demonstration with Lauri at the Ellie Caulkins Opera
House during the celebration of the Mayor’s Award for Excellence, which
was given to PlatteForum.
