REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS | Deadline: 9:00am, Tuesday, February 13, 2018

PlatteForum is currently accepting proposals for a Lead Artist to mentor PlatteForum’s ArtLab interns through conversations and responses to some of the most pressing social issues in Denver communities, nationally, and beyond. The chosen Lead Artist(s) will work with approx. 16 high school ArtLab interns to create a body of work that merges fundamental drawing skills with a rigorous topic of social change. Fundamental skills may include, but are not limited to, perspective, spaces/buildings and still-life drawing concepts. Due to space and logistics, clothed portrait drawing might be possible, but please inquire with staff before you submit your proposal.
Artists that are a good examples of this meeting of fundamentals and concept are: Joe Biel, Jennifer Celio, Sue Coe, William Kentridge, Heesop Yoon or artists who work in more abstract modes, like Julie Mehretu or Suchitra Mattai.

We are looking for Lead Artist(s) projects which explore themes of social change and justice while provoking a contemporary teen voice. Lead artists will collaborate with staff to develop an 8-week project. Lead Artists will meet with ArtLab interns once a week, for at least three hours each Saturday. During this time the Lead Artist will guide ArtLab interns through the creative process, explore concepts and materials relative to the project. All work created during this time will culminate in a public group exhibition on the second floor of The Temple Thursday, May 17th, 6-8pm. This show is one night only, and will be concurrent with the opening reception of PlatteForum’s Resident Artist Erika Diamond and McLain High School students. PlatteForum staff will install and de-install the show, as well as take care of all reception needs.

  • Start date: March 10th, 2018
  • Saturdays 10am – 1pm
  • No meeting on Saturday, March 24th due to DPS Spring Break
